RADIO HEALTH PEARL #374 …brought to you by the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center.

Antioxidant vitamins are in-and-out of the news on a regular basis. When Oprah Winfrey talked about ACAI-berries a few years ago, everybody wanted some and producers had a hard time keeping up production.

Antioxidants’ main work is to sacrifice part of themselves to so-called free radicals. These are incomplete cells that, in order to be whole, try to steal from healthy cells. Free radicals are foreign to the body, so their action has a gradual destroying effect on us.

As our own cells get destroyed, we use stem cells to replace them. But stem cell production diminishes as we age; and so we are wise to use them gradually.

These naturally occurring substances will neutralize free radicals and their effects, both long term and short term, and therefore have an anti-aging effect.

Antioxidants are present in food, but in supplement form they’ll put more “stank” in it, so to say!

I’ll discuss more specific antioxidants next week, but you can already learn more about them at …the Gesundheit! Nutrition Center on North 19th Avenue.
