Radio Health Pearl #31 brought to you by Jacobus Health Productions and Gesundheit! Nutrition Center.
Yoga, a Sanskrit word meaning “unity” was developed in India over 5,000 years ago. It’s practice focuses on breathing techniques, stretching positions, physical, mental, and spiritual awareness, an open heart, a peaceful mind, and a strong body. Today, yoga combines stress-relieving stretches with muscle toning and aerobics.
Yoga is NOT a religion and as such, there are no doctrinal requirements. But most yoga practices of the 60’s and 70’s might have given that misconception. Over 6 million people practice yoga regularly and the more than 1,000 postures can suit many needs.
Aside from a fitness perspective, yoga has been found to relieve or even cure physical ailments, including aching backs, menstrual pain, and even heart conditions.
I won’t show you how to sit cross-legged and chant the “om” 60’s style, but I suggest you check some books and other ways that help in bridging the mind and body, and in conserving our health the 60’s way.
